Tensions exploded across the Middle East Sunday as Iran and Hezbollah launched coordinated strikes on Israel following President Trump’s 48-hour ultimatum to open the Strait of Hormuz. The U.S. president warned Tehran would face destruction of its power plants if it failed to reopen the vital waterway, through which roughly one-fifth of global oil supply flows. Iranian parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf responded that any U.S. attack on Iranian infrastructure would trigger retaliation against “vital infrastructure across the region” including energy and desalination facilities, warning they would be “irreversibly destroyed.”
