Iran says it will reopen the Strait of Hormuz if Washington lifts its naval blockade

Tehran’s offer arrives as the United States keeps pressure on Iran’s nuclear program and sustains a maritime chokehold. Diplomats warn that the gesture could be a bargaining chip, not a concession.

“Any concession will be tied to concrete steps on the nuclear front,” a senior U.S. official told Reuters.

The blockade, estimated to cost the regional economy ↓ 15% in shipping fees, has prompted oil prices to hover near ↑ 3 dollars per barrel. Analysts from Bloomberg argue that reopening the waterway could defuse immediate tensions but may embolden Tehran’s leverage in upcoming talks.
