In a surprise diplomatic overture, Iran told Islamabad it would lift its chokehold on the Strait of Hormuz if Washington ends the blockade and halts hostilities. The proposal, relayed through Pakistan on Monday, pushes back talks on Tehran’s nuclear agenda in favor of immediate de‑escalation.

Strait of Hormuz Offer Sparks Diplomatic Tension

Regional officials say the move aims to pressure the United States into a strategic reset, but President Trump appears unlikely to acquiesce.

“We are prepared to restore free passage, provided the U.S. ceases its punitive measures,” an Iranian envoy said.

U.S. Response Uncertain

Analysts note that oil flow through the strait fell ↓ 12% in March, while Iranian exports have risen ↑ 8% since the offer surfaced. Washington faces a dilemma: accept a concession that could be seen as rewarding aggression, or risk prolonged maritime disruption. Reuters and AP News report that the United Kingdom and France are monitoring the situation closely, warning that any escalation could draw NATO into a broader confrontation.
