The Hunt for Gollum Reunites Gandalf and Frodo

Warner Bros. announced at CinemaCon 2026 that Sir Ian McKellen and Elijah Wood will step back into the shoes of Gandalf and Frodo Baggins for Andy Serkis’s ambitious sequel, The Hunt for Gollum.

Fans will recognize the iconic poster unveiled Tuesday, dominated by the snarling silhouette of Gollum, hinting at a darker quest.

“The chemistry between McKellen and Wood remains unparalleled,” a studio spokesperson told Reuters.

Production is slated to begin this fall, with a budget reportedly hovering around ↑ $200M, positioning the film as one of the most expensive fantasy projects to date.

Serkis, famed for his motion‑capture mastery, promises a narrative that bridges the original trilogy’s legacy with fresh mythic intrigue.
