Hantavirus cruise ship docks in Rotterdam

The MV Hondius, identified as a Hantavirus cruise ship, entered the Port of Rotterdam early Tuesday, bringing 25 crew members and 2 medical personnel ashore. Dutch health authorities immediately set up containment protocols, noting that the ↓ 1% risk of further transmission aligns with European guidelines. All passengers remain under observation, officials said.

“We are coordinating with the WHO to ensure no secondary cases emerge,” a spokesperson told Reuters.

The vessel will undergo thorough decontamination before any future voyages, a step echoed by the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC).
