Federal investigation into mysterious disappearances of top scientists intensifies

Energy Secretary Chris Wright told Reuters on Fox News Sunday that a formal probe has been launched within the Department of Energy, tying together multiple agencies in a coordinated effort.

“A lot of the nuclear security scientists are in DOE, so yes, of course we are looking into this,” Wright said.

When pressed about early leads, he added, “Too early to say about that. We haven’t found anything alarming yet.” The administration hopes to have a clearer picture within ↓ 10 days, according to White House aides.

High‑profile cases fuel urgency

The string of incidents dates back several years, spiking after retired Air Force Maj. Gen. William McCasland vanished from his New Mexico home in February. Other missing figures include aerospace engineer Monica Jacinto Reza, Los Alamos security‑clearance assistant Melissa Casias, retired Los Alamos worker Anthony Chavez, and NNSA property custodian Steven Garcia.

Deaths have also been recorded: MIT physicist Nuno Loureiro, Caltech astrophysicist Carl Grillmair, Novartis scientist Jason Thomas, and JPL engineer Frank Maiwald.

Republican Rep. Eric Burlison highlighted that many victims left behind phones and personal devices, a pattern he called “not normal.”
