FDA Confirms New Cyclospora Outbreak: 72 Cases Added to Nationwide Surge

The Food and Drug Administration announced Wednesday that it is probing a fresh Cyclospora outbreak that has added 72 confirmed infections to a growing national tally.

To date, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have logged ↑ 11,500 cases across 41 states, including 4,173 confirmed and over 7,400 probable infections. Hospitalizations stand at 308; no fatalities have been recorded.

This marks the FDA’s sixth Cyclospora investigation in 2024, a stark contrast to the annual average of 2,000‑5,000 cases reported in recent years.

“The situation is under control,” Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said when queried about the surge.
