Wildfires in France and Spain intensify as evacuations surge

More than ↓ 300,000 residents have fled their homes amid rapidly spreading blazes near Bordeaux and across Spain’s eastern coast. Spain’s prime minister warned of “complex hours” ahead, urging citizens to stay alert while fire crews battle the infernos.

“We are far from containment,” a French civil protection official told reporters.

The French interior ministry confirmed that ↓ 12,000 ha of forest have already been consumed, and the death toll remains at zero but injuries are mounting. Reuters reports that wind gusts could push the flames toward populated valleys, complicating rescue efforts.
