Ebola epidemic expands across Central Africa

The Africa CDC’s latest alert underscores that the Ebola epidemic is now poised to affect up to ten additional states, stretching the crisis beyond the current hotspot.

Uganda has reported ↓ 3 new infections, while the Red Cross confirms ↓ 3 volunteer deaths in eastern DR Congo after contracting the virus in March.

Authorities in Ituri’s Mongbwalu witnessed residents torching a section of an Ebola treatment centre, forcing 18 suspected patients to flee; a similar blaze hit a facility in Rwampara.

“The security of treatment sites cannot be taken for granted,” warned a health official, citing recent attacks.

Countries now on the CDC’s radar include Angola, Burundi, the Central African Republic, the Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania and Zambia.

Regional leaders are scrambling for resources, with Reuters noting that cross‑border coordination remains fragile amid ongoing pandemic pressures. AP News reports that vaccine stockpiles are being re‑evaluated to meet the expanding threat.
