The U.S. Department of Justice announced Friday it has taken control of the CFAKE.com and SOCFAKE.com domains, accused of distributing nonconsensual AI‑generated nude imagery. This marks the first public enforcement action under the TAKE IT DOWN Act, a law designed to dismantle illicit deep‑fake platforms.

Enforcement of the TAKE IT DOWN Act Accelerates

According to a statement released by the DOJ, the operation targeted ↓ 2 websites that allegedly hosted thousands of synthetic porn videos without consent. Victims, primarily women, reported that the content amplified harassment and threatened personal safety. A senior prosecutor said,

“We will pursue every avenue to shut down platforms that weaponize AI against individuals.”

The seizure aligns with broader efforts to curb the proliferation of harmful AI, a concern that surged during the pandemic when online abuse spiked. Experts from Reuters note that lawmakers are scrambling to update statutes to keep pace with rapid tech evolution.

Authorities have warned that similar operations could face ↓ 150 additional investigations as the digital forensics unit expands its reach.
