Trump vaccine policy sparks AMA backlash

The American Medical Association erupted Friday after President Trump signed an executive order that would align U.S. childhood immunization recommendations with Denmark’s model. “There is no credible scientific evidence to support such a change,” AMA President Bobby Mukkamala said, warning that the current schedule rests on decades of research and real‑world data.

“The schedule is designed to protect children in the US when they are most vulnerable based on our nation’s disease burden,” Mukkamala added.

What the overhaul entails

The proposal, first floated by Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., would slash the list of recommended shots from ↓ 17 to 11, eliminating doses for rotavirus, COVID‑19, influenza, meningococcal disease, hepatitis A and hepatitis B. Critics argue the move ignores the United States’ diverse population and higher disease exposure compared with Denmark, a country of roughly 5.8 million people.

Experts cited by Reuters and AP News stress that any deviation from the established schedule could widen immunity gaps and fuel outbreaks.
