New Resident Evil Game Every Year: Capcom’s Roadmap

In a candid interview after the launch of Resident Evil 9: Requiem, Capcom’s executive team confirmed the studio’s ambition to deliver a new Resident Evil game every year by alternating remakes with original entries. The approach, senior producer Masachika Kawata explained, is designed to keep the franchise financially robust while giving developers room to refine their craft.

“Remaking classic titles lets us meet the annual release goal and pushes the team to hone their skills. The remakes are just as vital as fresh mainline titles,” Kawata told Reuters.

The next confirmed project is a full‑scale remake of the 2000 Dreamcast classic Resident Evil Code: Veronica, slated for ↑2027. No exact month has been disclosed, but Capballo’s roadmap places the title after the anticipated Resident Evil 10 sequel, expected to follow the 2026 release of Requiem.

Remakes serve a dual purpose: they generate immediate sales and fund the development of new IPs such as the critically praised Pragmata. Kawata noted, “Our cycle creates the cash flow to invest in both legacy projects and brand‑new experiences.” This financial engine aligns with Capcom’s broader strategy, as detailed in a recent Bloomberg report on the company’s earnings.

Notably, the studio ruled out any near‑term spin‑off releases like Revelations or Outbreak. “Our resources are fully committed to mainline entries and remakes,” Kawata said, emphasizing the intensity of the development schedule.

Beyond the 2027 Veronica remake, fans can anticipate a story‑driven DLC for Requiem featuring Leon Kennedy, and a steady stream of remastered classics. While Capcom stops short of guaranteeing a title each calendar year, the expressed target remains clear: maintain a relentless cadence of Resident Evil releases without pause.
