Brand Journalism Boom: How Stacker’s CEO Is Luring Journalists With Six‑Figure Content Roles

Why brand journalism is reshaping media careers

Noah Greenberg, CEO of Stacker, has turned LinkedIn into a recruitment billboard, posting head of content roles that pay up to $200,000. He admits the viral listings are a marketing ploy to illustrate a shift: journalists are moving from legacy desks to brand journalism units funded by tech and fintech firms. Greenberg’s bootstrapped firm grew from a ↑ $3 million run‑rate to ↑ $10 million in under two years without VC money. Stacker connects brands with local newsrooms, vetting every pitch through an internal editorial team before distribution to 3,000 outlets, including McClatchy and Gray TV. The model promises data‑driven stories that traditional newsrooms lack, but critics warn it blurs the line between reporting and marketing.

“It’s less about the title and more about the work existing,” Greenberg said.

Former Wall Street Journal editor Shara Tibken now runs NVIDIA’s content hub, while fintech Robinhood has bought newsletters like Chartr. Journalists such as Tracy Middleton at Hone Health and Anneken Tappe at Chime see the shift as a chance to apply investigative instincts to corporate narratives. Yet scholars at the Reuters Institute argue that without clear independence, brand‑funded pieces risk eroding public trust. Transparency remains the litmus test as the ecosystem expands.
