Tim Cook stepped down as chief executive of Apple on Tuesday, handing the reins to hardware veteran John Ternus while remaining on the board as executive chair with a $2 million annual salary effective Sept. 26.

Beyond Washington, Cook has steered Apple through fraught U.S.–China relations, even joining a delegation of CEOs slated to accompany Trump on a high‑profile trip to Beijing.
