East Jerusalem’s education network is in turmoil as the Jerusalem schools strike gains momentum. Israeli authorities have tightened permit approvals and imposed a state‑approved curriculum, prompting teachers to walk out.

Jerusalem schools strike intensifies amid permit bans

Parents report that ↓ 35 schools have halted classes, while attendance at remaining sites fell ↓ 12%. “We cannot teach under coercion,” one veteran teacher said,

“our professional integrity is at stake.”

The move follows a recent Reuters report linking the policy to heightened security concerns, and an AP News investigation highlighting community backlash. Critics argue the forced curriculum erodes local heritage, while officials claim it standardizes education. The strike threatens to spill over into the upcoming academic year, with unions warning of prolonged disruptions.
