Parton, 80, died earlier this week, leaving a legacy that stretches from the Smoky Mountains to classrooms worldwide. In her Carnegie Medal acceptance, she said,

That personal pain became the engine behind the Imagination Library, now delivering ↑ 270 million books since its 1995 launch and marking a ↑ 200 million milestone last year.

The nonprofit, a 90‑year‑old pillar of regional health, partnered with Parton to deepen its promise to treat every child “as one of our own.” The renaming signals a continuity of her focus on children’s health, education, and opportunity—areas she funded through the Dollywood Foundation, which began in 1988 with a $500 incentive for high‑school graduates.

Beyond books, Parton’s giving included a $1 million contribution to Vanderbilt University for coronavirus research during the pandemic, and repeated disaster‑relief drives that raised millions for wildfire and flood victims, as reported by Reuters and Bloomberg.

She also ensured her 11,000 Dollywood employees could pursue higher education tuition‑free, a policy announced in 2022.
