The case began in 2021 when former aide Ashley Walters alleged assault, harassment and battery dating back to 2010‑11. A 2022 judge tossed the complaint citing the statute of limitations and a paucity of facts. Walters refiled in December 2023, only to see the suit dismissed again in December 2025 for the same timing issue.

New California law reshapes the fight

In January 2026 Walters invoked AB 250, a statute that temporarily extends filing windows for adult survivors of sexual abuse. Manson’s motion to dismiss was rejected in June 2026, with his team arguing the evidence failed to prove physical restraint, a key element for the law’s application.

“The judge made it clear we are not at the summary‑judgment stage,” said Howard King, Manson’s counsel, to Reuters.

Walters’ attorney Bina Ahmad called the decision “a vindication of the survivor’s courage.” Manson continues to deny every allegation.
