Max Miller ethics probe: timeline and stakes

Republican Representative Max Miller of Ohio announced Tuesday he will file formal paperwork to trigger an ethics investigation into himself, citing the Max Miller ethics probe as a move to “clear the air” amid explosive domestic‑abuse accusations from his estranged wife, Emily Moreno.

In a post on X, Miller wrote, “I have absolutely nothing to hide,” and promised to furnish the House Ethics Committee with “all necessary documents” for review.

“I’m not getting out of this race, and I’m winning in November,” he told viewers in a Sunday livestream.

Moreno’s court filings allege Miller assaulted and threatened her, claims he denies while pursuing a defamation suit. Ohio State Senator Bernie Moreno, Emily’s father, blasted Miller, saying he fails “basic standards of character required for elected office.”

The GOP heavyweight’s candidacy has drawn mixed signals from former President Donald Trump, who, according to Reuters, expressed doubt about Miller’s viability after a private call. Meanwhile, Miller’s legal entanglements extend to a pending restraining‑order motion filed by former White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham’s counsel, aimed at enforcing a settlement that bars both parties from disparaging each other.

Analysts flag the ↓ 1 point drop in Miller’s poll numbers since the allegations surfaced, warning that the Max Miller ethics probe could become a decisive factor in Ohio’s AP News coverage of the 2024 congressional showdown.
