Max Miller refuses to quit race amid abuse claims

Ohio Republican Representative Max Miller announced Sunday via a livestream on X that he will remain in the race for the 7th congressional district, rejecting recent domestic‑abuse accusations. He stressed that no court or government agency has validated the allegations and that he faces no criminal charges. “I’m not getting out of this race, and I’m winning in November,” Miller said at the close of the broadcast.

Family feud turns public

“He is a danger to my daughter, and I hold my breath every minute he has custody of my granddaughter,” wrote Sen. Bernie Moreno, Miller’s former father‑in‑law, on X.

Moreno added that Miller fails basic standards of character for elected office. The dispute follows court filings in which Miller’s ex‑wife, Emily Moreno, alleges physical abuse and a fractured collarbone for their daughter, claims the lawmaker denies. Child‑welfare investigators labeled two reports as unsubstantiated, noting an “indicated” finding of physical abuse but lacking enough evidence to identify a perpetrator. Miller posted a packet of court and police documents, though some pages appear omitted. Political stakes: Democrats field union ironworker Brian Poindexter, endorsed by Sen. Bernie Sanders, in a district that voted ↓ 11% more for Trump in 2024 than the national average. Reuters and AP News have tracked the unfolding drama. Ohio’s deadline to trigger a special election to replace Miller on the ballot is Wednesday; a withdrawal after ↓ 2 weeks would leave Republicans unable to name a substitute.
