Robinhood eyes title of the first hyperscaler in brokerage

Both Robinhood and Coinbase will unveil Q2 numbers this week, but analysts are already betting that the former will clinch the mantle of the first hyperscaler in the sector. Robinhood’s earnings call is slated for Wednesday 5 p.m. ET, Coinbase follows Thursday at the same hour.

Consensus forecasts show Robinhood posting $0.40 EPS on roughly ↑ $1.25 bn revenue, while Coinbase is expected to report a loss of ↓ $0.36 EPS on about $1.3 bn sales.

Market‑cap disparity is stark: Robinhood trades near ↑ $85 bn, roughly double Coinbase’s valuation despite the latter’s larger historic revenue stream. This gap reflects investor confidence in Robinhood’s diversification into prediction markets, tokenized finance and emerging credit products.

“Robinhood’s rapid rollout of tokenized stocks could redefine settlement timelines,” noted a senior analyst at Reuters.

Coinbase, meanwhile, leans heavily on crypto‑trading fees; non‑trading services revenue slipped last quarter, and its flagship USDC stablecoin now faces competition from a banking‑backed alternative Bloomberg reports.

Prediction markets are the one bright spot for Coinbase, projected to generate $100 million annualized, yet the platform’s in‑house Base chain has yet to deliver meaningful sequencer fees.

Robinhood’s tokenized‑stock initiative, championed by CEO Vlad Tenev, already pulled >$100 million in Q1, and the firm’s new Robinhood Chain is matching Base in transaction volume, hinting at a possible “super‑scale” advantage.
