Disability discrimination ruling reshapes remote‑work policies

A UK employment tribunal has concluded that obliging Laura Tait, a home‑based travel consultant with anxiety, ADHD and autism, to keep her webcam on during a mandatory training session constituted disability discrimination. The Croydon tribunal found Holiday Extras failed to implement reasonable adjustments, breaching the Equality Act.

“Employers must balance operational needs with the lived realities of neurodivergent staff,” the judge noted,

“refusing a simple accommodation is unlawful.”

The tribunal awarded Tait ↑ £12,000 in compensation and ordered the firm to review its remote‑working policies. Legal experts say the decision could prompt a wave of similar claims across the sector (Reuters, Bloomberg).
