Clean Air Act lawsuit faces White House pushback

The Trump administration is reportedly mobilizing legal resources to help Elon Musk’s xAI Corp. dodge a Clean Air Act lawsuit lodged by the NAACP, alleging unlawful operation of gas turbines that power the Grok AI system used by the U.S. military.

According to the filing, xAI and its subsidiary MZX Tech ran ↓ 27 gas turbines in Southaven, Mississippi without a required air permit; the count swelled to ↑ 57 by mid‑May, with two more slated for installation.

“Defendants’ Colossus Gas Plant fuels the nearby Colossus 2 data center, which in turn powers the chatbot ‘Grok,’” the NAACP complaint reads.

Local residents have complained of noise and health impacts, while the administration argues the suit threatens a critical national‑security asset. Reuters and Bloomberg have reported on the escalating legal battle.
