UFC Freedom 250 Faces Federal Injunction

A federal suit filed by the Public Integrity Project seeks to block the UFC Freedom 250 fight slated for the White House South Lawn on President Donald Trump’s birthday, arguing the event constitutes illegal use of national monuments.

Legal grounds and alleged corruption

The complaint, brought on behalf of two Virginia residents, claims the cage‑match is “deeply corrupt” and that Trump is granting Dana White unprecedented access to the Lincoln Memorial and the White House for profit.

“This is a profoundly corrupt scheme to enrich the President and his friends,” plaintiff lawyer Brendan Ballou said.

Ballou, a retired government worker and Vietnam veteran, told Reuters the lawsuit aims to prevent future branding of historic sites. He added that the administration has not secured the required congressional authorization or completed the environmental review mandated for temporary structures, a claim legal scholars say is unlikely to succeed.

Political backlash

Senators Mazie Hirono and Adam Schiff have slammed the plan as a “golden ballroom” distraction while Americans grapple with rising living costs. The White House dismissed the suit as “obstructionist, baseless, and dilatory,” insisting the event is comparable to past lawn gatherings.

Construction of the octagonal cage is already underway, with the official White House account posting a teaser video: “One week away. UFC X White House. Buckle up.” ↓ 1 lawsuit now pending before Judge Amit P. Mehta, who has asked both sides to propose a hearing schedule.
