Foldable iPhone Color Strategy: Black Still Uncertain, Leaker Says

Apple’s upcoming foldable iPhone is still under color debate, a rumor from the Weibo source “Instant Digital” claims the company has not locked in a black finish.

“Apple hasn’t even decided yet whether the foldable screen will come in black,” the leaker wrote, questioning a possible vendetta against the hue.

Foldable iPhone Color Outlook

The source reiterated an earlier February hint that only two finishes are planned, with white confirmed and a second shade still vague. Subsequent reports from Bloomberg and Reuters suggest the mystery color could be an indigo tone akin to the iPhone 17 Pro’s Deep Blue, while a classic silver‑white pair remains likely.

Samsung Display’s OLED panels are already in mass‑production ramp‑up, meaning color decisions must be finalized well before the slated September reveal. For a device as intricate as the foldable iPhone, late‑stage indecision would jeopardize supply, especially as analysts like Ming‑Chi Kuo warn of yield challenges that could curb output through ↓ 15‑20 million units over the first two years.

Historically, Apple has limited palette at launch. The iPhone X debuted with just Silver and Space Gray, and the iPhone XS added Gold a year later. A narrow selection aligns with the projected starting price of ↑ $2,000, which places the foldable iPhone beyond the price sensitivity of buyers who prioritize color.

Notably, recent high‑end releases such as the Apple Watch Ultra and Vision Pro launched with a single finish, underscoring Apple’s pragmatic approach when production constraints loom. The ongoing pandemic-era supply pressures further explain the restrained SKU strategy.
