U.S. strikes Iranian tankers amid fragile cease‑fire talks

The Trump administration announced that U.S. warships engaged two Iranian‑flagged tankers in the Gulf, a move that intensifies a volatile standoff as both sides negotiate a cease‑fire.

Washington says the action was a direct response to alleged violations of maritime security, while Tehran maintains the proposal remains under review.

According to Reuters, the Pentagon confirmed the loss of ↓ 2 vessels, marking the first such strike since the conflict reignited.

“We will not tolerate any breach of international law,” a senior U.S. defense official warned.

Iranian officials, speaking to AP News, described the U.S. claim as “premature” and urged the world to pressure Washington into a diplomatic reset.

Negotiators on both sides face a narrowing window as regional allies brace for possible escalation.
