Somalia protest torture: inside the prison guard abuse uncovered

In a rare interview from a Mogadishu detention center, 27‑year‑old rickshaw driver Sadia Moalim Ali recounts the harrowing details of Somalia protest torture she endured after being arrested for a peaceful rally.

She says two male guards stripped her naked in a CCTV‑monitored room, kicked her repeatedly, and beat her with a wooden baton.

“They left me in a cramped cell, no food, no water, for ↓ 2 days. I felt my dignity ripped away,” she told the Reuters correspondent.

Human‑rights observers, citing AP News, warn that such treatment violates international conventions and could fuel further unrest.

Calls for accountability after Somalia protest torture

Local NGOs demand an independent inquiry, while the government has yet to comment, raising doubts about the rule of law in the volatile Horn of Africa.
