Iran’s latest draft peace deal response was channeled to Washington on Thursday through Pakistani intermediaries, a move that signals diplomacy is not completely stalled.

President Donald Trump, speaking to reporters on Friday, said he was “not satisfied” with what Tehran offered. “We have just had a conversation with Iran. We will see what happens. But I am not happy,” he told the press. The White House envoy Steve Witkoff had earlier sent a list of amendments aimed at re‑injecting the nuclear issue into the text, including a demand that Iran refrain from moving enriched uranium from its bombed sites.

“They are very disjointed, with factions that disagree on the way forward,” Trump added in the Oval Office.

Behind closed doors, Trump spent ↓ 45 minutes in the Situation Room with Vice President Mike Pence, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, CIA Director John Ratcliffe and Witkoff. CENTCOM commander Adm. Brad Cooper and Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Dan Caine briefed the team on ↑ 1 new contingency plan for possible strikes. Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi told counterparts from Turkey, Egypt and Qatar that Tehran would pursue diplomacy only if the United States abandons what he called “excessive demands, threatening rhetoric, and provocative actions.” Reuters and AP News reported that the U.S. maintains a naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz and is weighing further military options. Trump summed up the dilemma: “Do we blast them or try to make a deal? I prefer not to resume bombing.”
