Three Iconic Album Cover Transformations That Echo Animorphs

When you picture the unsettling midway phase of an Animorphs metamorphosis, three album cover transformations spring to mind.

Album Cover Transformation: David Bowie’s “Diamond Dogs”

Bowie’s 1974 eighth LP arrives with a spread that flips a seemingly casual nude pose into a half‑man, half‑Great Dane creature; Belgian painter Guy Peellaert based the dog on a real canine Bowie brought to the shoot.

“I couldn’t resist the concept,” Peellaert told a 2010 biography.

The original art, uncensored, sparked a brief ↑ 5% sales bump after the 1990 reissue, according to Reuters.

Album Cover Transformation: Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way”

In 2011 Gaga unveiled a half‑woman, half‑motorcycle hybrid, photographed by Nick Knight. Critics dismissed it as a cheap Photoshop job, yet Gaga defended it as a visual metaphor for perpetual reinvention. “I’m endlessly changing,” she explained, a line that now reads less cheesy than it did on release.

Album Cover Transformation: Creed’s “Weathered”

Creed’s 2001 record features a bark‑etched tree bearing the faces of Scott Stapp, Mark Tremonti and Scott Phillips, while an unseen hand carves the scene. Designer Daniel Tremonti turned the imagery into an interactive experience called Creed Quest, blending trivia with hidden clues drawn from lyrics and album art. The odd juxtaposition of dark themes and whimsical visuals makes these three album cover transformations unforgettable.
