New Legal Framework for the Strait of Hormuz

Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei issued a stark warning that Tehran will craft new legal mechanisms to cement its grip on the Strait of Hormuz. In the same statement he reiterated that Iran will retain its nuclear capabilities, a stance that raises alarms in the Gulf and beyond.

“We will preserve our rights in the Strait of Hormuz,” Khamenei said.

Analysts note that tighter control could shave ↓ 5% off global oil‑shipping volumes through the narrow waterway. Reuters and Bloomberg have flagged the move as a potential flashpoint in an already volatile region.
