Attorney General Todd Blanche told reporters the 31‑year‑old shooter who disrupted the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner appears to have been aiming at members of the Trump administration, making the WHCD gunman target a national‑security concern.

Investigators say the suspect boarded a train in California, rode to Chicago and then to Washington, where he checked into the historic hotel on Friday night. His itinerary was traced through ticket records and surveillance footage.

“The system worked,” Blanche said on ABC’s This Week, contrasting the swift response with earlier security lapses.

Security forces, including the Secret Service, intercepted the gunman just beyond the hotel perimeter, preventing any shots from reaching the banquet hall. ↓ 1 bullet was recovered from the scene.

Law‑enforcement officials praised coordination, noting that “law enforcement and the Secret Service protected all of us,” according to the acting AG. For more on the investigation see Reuters and AP News.
