Iran leverage in Hormuz remains the linchpin of the latest diplomatic shuffle, as Tehran permits limited traffic through the strait under tightly‑controlled authorisation.

Iran leverage in Hormuz Shapes Talks

Pakistan’s back‑channel overtures aim to convene a fresh round of negotiations, yet Tehran insists any dialogue be predicated on the immediate lifting of U.S. sanctions.

“We will not compromise on our nuclear programme until the economic siege is broken,” an Iranian senior official warned.

U.S. officials, meanwhile, reiterate that Tehran must halt enrichment activities before any relief is considered. The standoff has already shaved ↓ 12% from Iran’s oil export volumes, a decline echoed in Reuters analyses and AP News reports.

The next few weeks could determine whether the Hormuz corridor stays a bargaining chip or snaps shut again.

Correction: An earlier dispatch misstated the date of the partial reopening.
