Iran threatens retaliation as the United States maintains a naval blockade on Tehran‑linked vessels, prompting Tehran’s armed forces to warn of expanded operations beyond the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran threatens retaliation amid U.S. blockade

The Iranian navy announced it would seek to dominate additional sea lanes if the U.S. military persists in restricting Iranian shipping. Analysts note that regional trade could be jeopardized, with the risk of shipping disruptions falling ↓ 12% in the next quarter. Oil benchmarks have already edged higher, up ↑ 3% after the statements.

“We will not accept any attempt to choke our economy,” a senior IRGC commander said, according to Reuters.

International observers, including the AP News, caution that escalation could draw NATO navies into a broader confrontation.
