Bond Yields Accelerate Amid Persistent US Growth

Bond yields have jumped to multi‑year highs, with the 10‑year Treasury reaching ↑ 0.3% to 4.6% after a ↓ 0.2% dip last week. Investors argue that the surge is insufficient to curb an economy that posted a Reuters-cited Q2 expansion of 2.1%. The labor market remains tight, unemployment hovering at 3.6% and wage growth outpacing inflation.

Why the Yield Spike Isn’t Slowing Activity

Data from the Bloomberg terminal show manufacturing PMI at 52.5, well above the 50‑point recession threshold. Consumer spending, bolstered by lingering stimulus effects from the pandemic, is still rising, albeit at a slower pace.

“Higher borrowing costs have yet to translate into a measurable pull‑back in core spending,” a senior market strategist told the Wall Street Journal.

Analysts caution that if yields breach the 5% barrier, credit conditions could tighten, potentially nudging the Federal Reserve toward a more aggressive policy stance.
