AI Safety Coordination Stalls as Zuckerberg Rejects Cooperation

Mark Zuckerberg’s latest remarks signal a clear departure from the growing chorus urging AI safety coordination. The Meta CEO brushed off proposals for a joint safety framework, arguing that Meta’s approach is already “robust enough” to safeguard its models.

AI safety coordination

Meanwhile, Reuters reports that OpenAI, Anthropic and Google are accelerating efforts to form a clandestine consortium aimed at standardising safety protocols across the sector. Sources say the fledgling group could consolidate resources equivalent to ↓ 10% of current duplicated research spend.

“Collaboration is the only path to preventing systemic risk,” a senior OpenAI engineer told Bloomberg.

Critics argue Zuckerberg’s stance may fragment the industry at a time when regulators worldwide are tightening scrutiny. The next few weeks could determine whether the nascent safety body gains traction or remains a shadowy experiment.
