Beacon AI has spent the past two years quietly snapping up more than 40 niche software firms, ranging from campground managers to labor‑union election platforms.

Beacon AI’s Rollup Strategy Accelerates Main Street Software

Founder‑CEO Nilam Ganenthiran, a former Instacart president, says the plan is to inject artificial intelligence into legacy tools, add fresh AI features, and streamline operations with a unified data platform.

“We think that it is existential that they get AI at the same rate that the rest of the economy does, but today they’re not,” he told Reuters. He warns that big labs often overlook these small‑business owners.

Unlike classic private‑equity turnarounds, Beacon AI intends to keep its acquisitions long‑term, focusing on growth rather than cost cuts. The firm disclosed a ↑ $225 million Series C round in June, underscoring investor confidence.

“At the end of the day, what we’re buying is the founders’ knowledge, trust, and everything that is in their brain about how these niches of the economy work,” Ganenthiran said.

Current portfolio highlights include E2E Soccer, PowerUp Sports, College Kickstart, and several campground‑management suites, together generating hundreds of millions in annual revenue.

Remarkably, ↑ 75% of the companies still operate under their original founders, preserving deep market expertise.

On September 17, Beacon AI added Haize Labs, a New York AI‑training specialist, appointing co‑founder Leonard Tang as VP of AI research. Tang’s team will craft bespoke AI agents and “world models” to aid strategic planning while enforcing safety safeguards.

Haize’s pedigree includes collaborations with OpenAI and Anthropic, and its FreeAINYC program has embedded AI talent in local firms. Tang is already helping TrueBallot, a labor‑union voting platform, migrate to the cloud and refine ballot‑counting workflows.

According to Ganenthiran, the cumulative customer data from each acquisition fuels a feedback loop that makes Beacon AI’s central platform increasingly powerful.
