USPS fentanyl semipostal stamp details

The United States Postal Service is set to roll out a new USPS fentanyl semipostal stamp this October, a $20 sheet designed to fund research and awareness on the nation’s deadliest synthetic opioid. The launch will coincide with a “Know the Facts About Fentanyl” briefing at the NIH campus in Bethesda, Maryland, on Oct. 6.

“For years, fentanyl has fueled a national crisis, deeply affecting families and communities,” the agency said, adding that the semipostal will channel proceeds to the National Institute on Drug Abuse.

Each sheet contains ↑ 20 stamps priced at $1 apiece, with the surcharge earmarked for the institute. According to CDC, fentanyl accounted for ↓ 75% of overdose deaths among 10‑ to 19‑year‑olds between 2020 and 2024, totalling 48,000 fatalities in 2024 alone.

The artwork, based on Whitney Sherman’s illustration and refined by Antonio Alcalá, bears the caption “Know the Facts about Fentanyl—Protect Our Loved Ones.” Social media buzz is already surfacing under #FentanylSemipostalStamp.

Semipostal issues have previously supported breast‑cancer research, Alzheimer’s, 9/11 relief and domestic‑violence programs. This latest effort reflects a broader postal trend of leveraging philately for public‑health funding, a strategy that gained momentum after the pandemic. For further context, see Reuters.
