2028 presidential candidates

Governor Gretchen Whitmer has confirmed she will not join the field of 2028 presidential candidates. “I think there will be a robust group of people running for President,” Whitmer told WJBK-TV, adding, “I will not be one of them in 2028.” Speculation, however, is raging across the aisle. A recent Emerson College Polling survey ranks Pete Buttigieg as the front‑runner among Democrats, with support climbing to ↑ 18% of likely primary voters.

“You save me a seat, I’ll be there,” Buttigieg replied when Rev. Al Sharpton teased a second run.

Governor Gavin Newsom trails, his backing slipping to ↓ 16% after peaking at 25% last summer. Newsom admitted, “Yeah, I’d be lying otherwise,” when asked if a White House bid was on his radar. Alexandria Ocasio‑Cortez now holds 11% support, up seven points since August, while Josh Shapiro has doubled to 10%. Former Vice President Kamala Harris hovers at 10% after a modest dip. Reuters noted the growing list of potential contenders. On the GOP side, J.D. Vance rebuffs rumors, insisting he enjoys his vice‑presidential role, yet a poll shows 36% backing, down from 52% in February. Marco Rubio has surged to 35% support, while Ron DeSantis remains at 5%. AP News tracks the shifting Republican dynamics. Voters remain undecided: 18% of Democrats and 15% of Republicans say they haven’t chosen a candidate yet.
