The U.S. administration’s attempt to establish an Ebola quarantine unit in Kenya hit a fresh legal roadblock on Tuesday, as a Nairobi court postponed the rollout by ↓ 30 days, citing procedural flaws.

Ebola quarantine unit faces mounting opposition

Local residents, angered by fears of contagion, gathered in large numbers outside the proposed site, chanting and brandishing signs that read “No virus camp here”. Humanitarian groups warned that the delay could jeopardize monitoring of American citizens who may have been exposed abroad. A spokesperson for the State Department told Reuters that the plan remains “a critical component of our public‑health response.”

“We must protect both our travelers and the host community,” the official said.

Meanwhile, Kenyan lawmakers have called for a transparent review, and critics argue that the controversy underscores broader tensions over foreign‑led health interventions. AP News reported that similar proposals in other African nations have sparked comparable dissent.
